Amnesty
Saskatchewan
Amnesty International (AI) works to improve human rights through the actions of ordinary people around the world. We have a record of real achievement. Prisoners of conscience are released. Death sentences are commuted. Torturers are brought to justice. Governments are persuaded to change their laws and practices. Here's proof.

Welcome! to all Saskatchewan people who share a interest and a passion in defending and promoting human rights at home and around the world. This website is your connection to Amnesty International in Saskatchewan; a gateway to groups, activists and events right here in the province. Whether you're an individual or a group member, live in an urban or rural area, we've got the resources to help you start and continue important human rights work!

Getting Started:
Amnesty always welcomes new members and supporters, but our goal is to protect and promote human rights - not just to build up a membership list! There are plenty of ways you can get involved either on your own or with other Amnesty people in Saskatchewan:

• Write letters to world leaders.
Several urgent issues are listed on this page in the yellow area and there are several more here. If you've never written advocacy or appeal letters before, here are some letter writing tips.
• Get involved at a Saskatchewan AI group.
There are several groups regularly getting together, planning public awareness events, writing letters together and exchanging information and ideas. Even if you are in a smaller community, our provincial fieldworkers may be able to connect you with others nearby who have expressed an interest in human rights work. Here's a list of active Saskatchewan AI groups.
• Support Amnesty's efforts through a donation.
By making a donation you can become a part of Amnesty's global movement to defend the human rights of everyone, no matter where they live.
To maintain our impartiality, Amnesty never accepts money from any government, and depends on individuals like you to fund our life-saving work.

* When you donate to Amnesty International, you always receive a charitable tax receipt along with our thanks. *
• Purchase Holiday Cards for 2008 and Calendars for 2009.
The Regina Chapter, Group 91 of Amnesty International is pleased to offer our specially designed collection of Holiday Cards for 2008 and our 2009 Calendar. Through the purchase and use of these lovely cards and calendars you will not only be supporting Amnesty International in a financial manner, you will also have the opportunity to support and promote Justice and Human Rights in Saskatchewan, Canada, and on a global scale. Please consider supporting Amnesty International in your holiday and future purchases. Please check out the order form at this here.
• Read about Amnesty's efforts and concerns around the world.
The web sites at our Canadian national office and our International Secretariat have many status reports, online resources and toolkits, news releases, issues updates and financial reports.
• Come out to one of our public events.
We often plan events intended to raise the awareness and knowledge of the public about important human rights concerns both here in Canada and around the world. For example, every December on International Human Rights Day, we hold a Candlelight Vigil, but we also get together regularly to write appeal letters and inform ourselves about current human rights concerns.
Let us know what you'd like to do!
If you've got ideas that you think will help, we want to hear from you. Get in contact with one of our groups or our provincial fieldworkers.

Saskatchewan Amnesty Groups:

Don't despair! If you are not in a community listed above, then contact our provincial fieldworkers. They may be able to put you in touch with other individuals nearby who are helping protect human rights - maybe you'll want to start a new group yourself!

Our  facebook  group is named:
Amnesty International Saskatchewan

Since so many of us are also using Facebook, we've recently launched a group there. This provides a forum for our members and supporters in Saskatchewan to work together online for human rights and the protection of people everywhere.
