Regina Community Activists (Group 91)

Welcome!

The Regina Community group (Group #91) is one of the oldest and most active AI groups in Saskatchewan and we always welcome new people to "check us out" before joining as regular members of the group.

Getting involved with Amnesty International is as simple as showing up at one of our events and introducing yourself.

Ongoing Activities:

  • Members write letters to prisoners of conscience to provide personal encouragement and to political leaders and organizations to advocate for greater recognition and compliance with internationally-recognized human rights obligations. Most of the details for such issues (and addresses and names) come to us through our National Office as Urgent Actions.
  • We have numerous activities throughout the year. Some are special public events such as participation in the 30th annual FNUC Pow wow in support of Aboriginal human rights. Some are regular get-togethers such as letter-writing nights at coffee shops. Some are special events intended for human rights activists, such as "human rights college" workshops. And of course we have regular annual events such as the annual International Day for the Recognition of Human Rights (Dec. 10th) and local festivals like the Regina Folk Festival, the Cathedral Arts Festival, Taste for Justice, etc. Our most immediate events are announced in advance through this web site on the main home page events listing and usually also indicated in our periodic email-based newsletter (copies are linked above as well).
  • Supporters of our group help Amnesty's organizational, publicity, and investigative efforts through donations at the national and local levels. Donating to the Regina Community group helps offset the cost of public events, workshops, postage and hosting this web site. To donate to Amnesty International Canada, we use this secure online form and these other ways to give.
  • WOZA: Women of Zimbabwe Arise! is a special undertaking by the Regina Community group. This is a group advocating nonviolent intervention to promote social justice, democracy and (particularly) women's rights in Zimbabwe. They have faced considerable repression from the Mugabe regime and have asked for international advocacy from Amnesty. We write to the political leaders of Zimbabwe to ensure they are aware that the world is watching events closely and arbitrary arrests and intimidation must end. Please see our WOZA page for further information.
