Sisters in Spirit 3rd annual vigil

Saturday, October 4th starting at 7pm
Regina

Amnesty International is supporting the SK Sisters in Spirit 3rd annual vigil in Victoria Park. Please join us for an evening to remember all the women (men and children) who have been taken and remain missing, and those who have been taken through violence/murder. This year we will have speakers sharing their stories, Elders sharing wisdom, and singers sharing their songs -- all to support healing and strength for those directly affected, and to raise awareness among the community of the need to "never forget" our missing/murdered loved ones. Bring a friend!
Note: the event is outdoors, rain or shine, please dress for whatever early October weather in SK might bring!

When Tamayo's 11-year-old son answered the door, the man, his face hidden by his helmet, handed him an envelope containing an announcement of the death of his father, together with Javier Correa and five other trade union leaders. Beside each name there was a cross ...

El Salvador : “Disappeared" Children and the Legacy of War

Children Legacy WarThe 1980-91 armed conflict in El Salvador was marked by massive human rights violations, including extrajudicial executions, torture and "disappearances". Over 700 children “disappeared” during the conflict. Many were abducted after their parents were murdered or were separated from them during army attacks on their villages. On October 5, 2008, the mandate of the existing Inter-Institutional Commission for the Search of Disappeared Children will come to an end. This will be a key opportunity to call for the reform of the Commission...

Letter writing tip of the month:

Always be polite.

This rule is essential and invariable. Your aim is to help stop human rights abuses, not to relieve your own feelings. Governments don't respond to abusive or condemnatory letters (however well deserved).
